| A celebration of
artworks inspired by the Rotorua District and its people
Keen to preserve the region’s history, the Rotorua
Trust began collecting and bringing home an important
historical art record which reflects the artistic endeavour
in the Rotorua District, in 2000.
The artworks in various media have been purchased by
the Trust for the people of Rotorua to enjoy generation
upon generation. Spanning the Nineteenth to the Twenty-First
Centuries, the Collection features many well-known artists
including Charles F Goldie, Charles Blomfield, Edward
Bullmore, Edward W Payton and photographer, Brian Brake,
to name but a few.
John Perry the former Director of the Rotorua Museum
of Art and History – Te Whare Taonga O Te Arawa
has been instrumental in sourcing works for the Collection
and ensuring it meets the objectives of the Trust.
The Collection is maintained on behalf of the Trust
by the Rotorua Museum of Art and History – Te
Whare Taonga O Te Arawa.
In 2001 the Trust, in conjunction with the Rotorua
District Council, oversaw and provided funding for the
upgrading of the museum gallery to international standards.
The Trust, together with a number of key support partners,
is currently working with the Rotorua Museum Centennial
Trust in having the Museum building completed to its
original plans. This will see the establishment of the
Rotorua Trust Galleries which will enable the Collection
to be displayed on a regular basis for the enjoyment
of local people as well as the many people who visit
Rotorua each year, for many generations to come. Visit

None was more enthusiastic about The Heritage Collection
than inaugural Trust Chairman, the late Johnny Lepper,
who initiated the project.
“The Rotorua region is rich in history and one
which is blessed with a diversity of landscapes and
cultures.”
Johnny Lepper
Trust Chairman 1994 - 2002
