Stuart Burns
BMS, FCA, CFIP, FCIS, ANZIM
Chief Executive A Fellow
of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Institute
of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, Stuart
also holds a Management Studies Degree and is a member
of the Institute of Finance Professionals of New Zealand.
As chief executive of the Trust, he
also has responsibilities with the Trust’s chief
investment officer for the investment activities of
the Trust’s subsidiary, Perpetual Capital Management
Ltd.
Stuart first became involved with the
Trust in 1994 when he was invited to become a trustee.
Stepping down from the position of deputy chairman in
1995, he assumed the role of secretary / manager (now
chief executive). With his guidance, over the past 12
years, the Trust’s original capital of $32 million
has grown to an investment portfolio of more than $145
million after contributing more than $67 million back
to the Rotorua community.
Born in Rotorua and educated in Rotorua
and Hamilton, Stuart returned to live in Rotorua in
1984 after spending six years living and working in
Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. He is a keen supporter
of the arts and has been involved with many sporting
and community organisations during his time in Rotorua.
He is on the Board of Philanthropy
New Zealand and is a past councillor for the New Zealand
Institute of Chartered Accountants. Passionate about
motorcycles, he currently owns a BMW K75RT, 1952 Norton
“Big 4”, 1958 Norton Model 50 (currently
being restored) 1972 Norton Commando and a 1972 Suzuki
GT380.
Married, he has three adult children
from his previous marriage.
