Paul East |
Rt. Hon. Paul East, QC,
CNZM
As our City’s former Member of
Parliament, District Councillor and Deputy Mayor, Paul
East certainly has a high community profile.
Rising to the position of Attorney-General
in his parliamentary career, he more recently represented
New Zealand as our High Commissioner to the United Kingdom
and became a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit
(CNZM) in the 2005 Queen’s Birthday Honours List
for his services to Parliament and the law.
Having returned to Rotorua in 2002,
Paul is currently chair of the Charity Gaming Association
and is a director of Benfield (NZ) Ltd, Taylors Group
Limited and Agriquality Limited.
A member of the Eisenhower Fellowship
Board and an associate of the Arbitrators and Mediators
Institute of New Zealand, he is also a trustee of the
Antarctic Heritage Trust and the Rotorua Museum Centennial
Trust.
Raised in Rotorua, Paul was educated
in Auckland where he gained his law degree. Awarded
the Du Pont Fellowship, he went on to study law at the
University of Virginia in the United States. He became
a Queen’s Counsel in 1995.
Paul enjoys golf, fishing and skiing.
He is married to Lyn and they have three adult daughters.
