JWJ Lepper Memorial Apprenticeship Scholarship

Purpose

The Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust has established the JWJ Lepper Memorial Apprenticeship Scholarship programme to assist apprentices who reside in and undertaking an apprenticeship in the Rotorua District to meet the cost of their study.

Applicants must have attended a secondary school in the Rotorua District for at least two academic years

General Requirements

The Trust will award up to a maximum of 10 scholarships.

Applicants must have completed at least one year of their apprenticeship as at 31 December 2009.

The scholarship funding is open to apprentices who are resident and undertaking the apprenticeship in the Rotorua District, are New Zealand citizens or have permanent resident status and who have attended for at least 2 academic years, one of the following secondary schools in the Rotorua District:

Rotorua Girls High School
Rotorua Boys’ High School
Rotorua Lakes High School
Western Heights High School
Reporoa College
John Paul College
Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Ruamata
Te Kura Kaupapa o Te Koutu

Terms and Conditions

The Scholarship has a value of $1,000 and is payable in one instalment.

Successful recipients will be expected to keep the Trust informed of any difficulties they may experience during the year, and will need to provide a summary of their results during the year.

The Trust reserves the right to publicly present the scholarships and successful applicants may be used in future publicity material.

Criteria for selection

Consideration will be given to applicants undertaking an approved apprenticeship in the Rotorua District and will be based on:

  1. Initiative, attitude and motivation to succeed in their apprenticeship
  2. Community and cultural involvement

LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Material to be included

In addition to the application form, applicants must include a reference from their employer, a copy of their school record and a copy of their certificate of birth or the photo page from their current passport..

NO other supporting documentation is required with the application, however, applicants may be asked to produce additional supporting documentation at a later stage.

Selection Process

A selection panel will draw up a short list of applicants.

The selection panel may consider it necessary to interview some applicants. If this is the case, then applicants will be informed and will need to be available to be interviewed by the panel in late January – early February 2010.

The Trust reserves the right to reduce the number of scholarships should there be no suitable applicants.

Application Form

Applications for ALL Trust scholarships have closed for 2009. Applications will re-open late in 2010 and more information will be provided on this web site at that time.
